After a difficult spring, Shortstack is getting
back into action. As you may know, due to a family
emergency we had to cancel most of our tour dates and our
planned recording sessions in April. But we're getting back to it,
starting with
some in-stores at Olsson's with our
friends Vandaveer and John Bustine. Check out the shows
page for all the details.
Later in the summer, though, that's when things
really pick up. In July we'll be recording some covers that will come
out on an EP later in the year (maybe January, just to be
safe). And then in August we'll
be playing a handful of East Coast dates with Amy Domingues' fantastic Garland
of Hours. For now, check our
MySpace page for show info. We'll have something on the shows
page just as soon as Scott makes a kick-ass poster for us to show off.
Also, check out some video of us playing at SXSW here
and here. Here's
one with an interview with Adrian and Scott explaining what we're up
to. Enjoy!
And, finally, this is surely a sign of the
apocalypse: you can now buy a Shortstack ringtone for your
cellular phone. We're as amazed and horrified as you are.

SHORTSTACK SHOWS CANCELLED
We
are sad to bring the news that Shortstack had to cancel its remaining
shows. These United States will continue onward with Adam Arcuragi
taking our place. Adrian prepared this statement before he flew
home....
Dear
Friends,
Shortstack left for tour last week, intending to do a three week stint
out to the west coast and back. Due to some very unfortunate news,
we've decided to cancel the rest of the tour after Austin.
My father has been battling a rare form of cancer for the past year. On
Friday I spoke with my family in Pennsylvania, and sadly learned that
his cancer has proliferated significantly, and it appears we have very
little time left to spend together.
It's heartbreaking to have to write this, as until recently we all
hoped that the disease was contained and that he would have a long long
battle ahead of him. Like many of us, it was through my parents that I
first became interested in music. I have happy memories of listening to
blues records with my father, and of him taking me to see BB King when
I was very young. His influence certainly shaped my own interest in
music, and without that I wouldn't be making music now. I could not
have asked for a better man as a father.
I'll be going to Pennsylvania tomorrow morning to be with my family.
I'd like to extend the most sincere gratitude to our label, Gypsy Eyes,
for their kind thoughts and understanding through all this, and as well
to my bandmates for their love and support--you've all been truly
wonderful, and I'm fortunate to count you all as dear friends.
Best,
Adrian

7.17.06
On July 8th, Mike Maran, former lap steel player
for Shortstack, passed away after a four year battle with lymphoma.

Mike was a ferocious performer, a dedicated
craftsman, and a true innovator. He was a familiar face in the local DC
music scene for many years, playing bass guitar in the Ruby Dare, drums
in No Lie Relaxer, as well as contributing to other projects. When he
joined Shortstack in 2001, his creative use of the lap steel helped
develop a new sound for the band, and made us a more exciting live act.
We were lucky to have him on board when we recorded our first record,
and for his company on the road for the many shows that followed.
Besides his musicianship, Mike was a loyal friend with an amazing mind.
We will never forget his deadpan jokes, sharp wit, hilarious stories,
and above all, the strength and courage he showed during the past years
of his illness. We miss him dearly, and may his memory live on forever
in the songs he wrote and recorded with us.
5.03.06
Lots of exciting news to report, so grab your pens
and start takin' notes!
First of all, we're very excited to be headlining
the Gypsy Eyes Records launch party at
the 9:30 Club on Saturday, May 13th. Gypsy Eyes will be
putting out Shortstack's new record later in the summer, and we're
pleased as punch to be mixed up with these guys. They've
pulled together a great show - we'll be playing with Revival, Brandon
Butler, and These United States. They're all fantastic
artists, and for more info, check out their websites (there are links
on our Shows page). PLEASE NOTE: the May 13th show is an
EARLY SHOW - doors open at 6:30!!! Get there early, 'cause
you're gonna kick yourself if you miss any of it!
You're not going to have many chances to see a show
like this next one, so take advantage of the opportunity. On
Monday, May 22nd, three fourths of Shortstack will be playing honky
tonk and gospel covers at the Warehouse Theater after the a round of
the DC Bee. That's right - we're playing after a spelling
bee! Revival will be there too, so don't miss it.
Spelling starts aournd 8:30 with music to follow.
Again, if you want a little more detail, please check the
Shows page.
Thanks, and we'll see you soon!

Hey all. So we are currently getting the next
record mastered, which means its all done and getting the final polish.
We are excited to announce that we are in contract negotiations with a
new label, Gypsy Eyes Records, which will be a
welcome addition to the DC music scene, and once the papers are signed,
things should get a bit busier for us again. We can't wait to get the
record out and start playing shows, it won't be long now. Also check
out s great little interview of us on the DCist blog.

1.27.06
We've been putting the finishing touches on the mix
of our new record. Its gonna be meaner, faster, and a bit more rock
from our last full-length, and we hope you'll enjoy it. Speaking of new
things, we've decided to cut a track from the new album's roster,
called "Still On Your Side"...its a nice sweet ballad with lots of
vocal harmonies. Well, it wasn't "tough enough" for the new record, but
we like the recording anyway, so we thought we'd offer it as a download
for a limited time to our fans. You will not see this song on any
album, and hell, you'll probably never hear it played live either. So
get your digital copy of this "rare gem" in our Records section while
you can. We'll be pulling it down when the new record arrives, which,
cross your fingers, should be soon.

11.06.05
Welcome to the new Shortstack site, we hope you
enjoy it! There are some minor bugs to work out with some of the
sections, so please be patient as we fix them up. In the meantime, we'd
like to thank everyone who came to our show at Galapagos with the Doc
Marshalls...we had a great time and hope you can make the
next one. Thank you for your support!
****
We'd also like to announce the release of a new 7",
featuring our cover of the traditional song "Honey Baby", and the Link
Ray-esque scorcher "El Saboteur". Another mix of El Saboteur can also
be found on the newest complation by Solid
PR. Buy 'em both quick before they're gone...
